The Pageant will be held at 8:00PM, Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the Center for the Arts in Homer, NY |
This year marks the inaugural National Sweet Teen Pageant (NST). The pageant was founded by Jack Carr, former and founding State Executive Director of New York's Outstanding Teen Scholarship and former member of the Miss America's Outstanding Teen (MAOT) National Advisory Board. The competition parallels the long-running and much beloved National Sweetheart Pageant in Hoopeston, Illinois, which coincides with a regional sweetcorn festival. NST Pageant allows contestants from across the country to network among other like-minded young women aged 13 to 17. The major difference between National Sweet Teen and National Sweetheart is that in the teen competition, ALL FOUR of the Final Five are invited, for a maximum of 28 contestants. Several states (ME, MO, VA, CT and NH) reserved spots with a refundable deposit well before their pageants took place.
According to NST's Mission Statement, "The National Sweet Teen Organization provides an opportunity for runners-up at the Miss America's Outstanding Teen state competitions to develop their interviewing and performance skills, to network among young women throughout the country, and to continue working on their community service platforms."
This start-up year, nine contestants will be at the Center for the Arts from Thursday, July 19 through Sunday, July 22: New Mexico, Kentucky, West Virginia, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont and two contestants from Connecticut. On hand to emcee and perform will be New Hampshire's Outstanding Teen and Connecticut's Outstanding Teen.
